Let’s be honest: litigation isn’t always like what you see in the movies. But take it from me—a paralegal and a WWE superfan—litigation is basically professional wrestling.

No, really. Hear me out.

1. It’s All About the Entrance

In WWE, entrances are everything. Smoke, theme music, pyro—the first impression sets the tone for the match.

In litigation? Same energy.

  • The demand letter? That’s your entrance theme.
  • The first court filing? Your monologue to the crowd.

The opposing side sees it and instantly knows who they’re dealing with. Walk in with confidence and you’ve already won half the battle.

At ALH Law Group, our lead attorney Allison Harrison delivering an opening argument is the legal equivalent of CM Punk grabbing the mic and setting the tone for the night.

2. The Heels and the Babyfaces

Every case has its "face"—the noble, wronged party fighting for justice (think Cody Rhodes)—and its "heel"—the master of dirty tactics, dodging discovery, and throwing motions like steel chairs (looking at you, Gunther).

But, like in WWE, roles shift.

  • Today’s babyface plaintiff might be tomorrow’s heel when we discover they deleted key emails.
  • That defense attorney who looked like a martyr? Maybe they’re quick to drop a sanctions motion.

It’s all about perspective. And just like in wrestling, the audience—judge, jury, and public opinion—ultimately decides who’s wearing the white hat (cough cough John Cena).

3. Attorney/Paralegal Tag Team Matches

In the legal world, paralegals and attorneys often operate like a perfectly synchronized tag team in a WWE match—each knowing when to jump in, when to hang back, and how to support the other for maximum impact. At ALH Law Group, attorney Shelby Nathans and I are basically Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez (dibs on Liv!).

Shelby might be the one delivering the high-profile arguments in the ring (or courtroom), but it’s me as the paralegal who sets up the big moves: prepping discovery, organizing exhibits, and spotting key facts buried in mountains of documents. When done right, the handoffs are seamless—like a well-timed tag over the ropes—turning a solo fight into a dynamic, coordinated assault that keeps the opposing side on their heels.

4. Building a Narrative

Wrestlers cut promos to build hype, throw shade, and control the narrative. Lawyers? They conduct depositions, send letters, and make arguments. It’s all the same—crafted words designed to win minds and psych out the opponent.

As a paralegal, I live for drafting discovery requests and motions full of power moves delivering the big hits to the opposing party. If you’ve ever sifted through hundreds of pages of evidence just to find the one “gotcha” moment, you know exactly what I mean.

5. It’s a Show—But It’s Real Work

Wrestling may be scripted, but it takes real skill, pain tolerance, precision, and endurance. Litigation is no different. Behind the courtroom theatrics is a grind of document review, e-filing deadlines, Bates-stamping, and case law research that never ends. I’ve had discovery projects that felt like a Royal Rumble. And like any loyal WWE fan, I know: just because it can be flashy, doesn’t mean it’s not real.

Front Row Super Fan

Being a paralegal is a bit like being that fan in the front row, yeeting, shouting advice, and maybe throwing a metaphorical chair now and then. I’m not the one in the ring, but I’m damn sure part of the match.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a motion to draft and an episode of Monday Night Raw to catch up on. Because whether it’s court or the cage, I always back the ones who fight smart, play fair, and never forget to bring the drama.
